It was just last year that Snyder teased he was working on restoring Batman v Superman's IMAX presentation. The 4K release on disc will include a digital download code, but no Blu-ray, suggesting that the standard DVD and Blu-ray versions will not be upgraded to the IMAX version anytime soon. This hands-on 4K upgrade comes along with Snyder's long-teased IMAX version of he film, which he hopes will get a limited theatrical release. The movie's initial 4K release was a clumsy, upconverted version of the Blu-ray, and ended up having some quality issues not present in the standard Blu-ray. Snyder recalled when he first saw Batman v Superman saying, "I remember watching it on Apple movies or wherever it was, or somewhere, and going, 'Wait, what? That's not correct.' The reds were all blocked up, it was really weird." Red blocking commonly happens when films are not mastered correctly or when the source material is compressed. This prevents a smooth transition of particular colors such as red and black.Zack Snyder's Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice is getting a 4K Ultra HD reissue, with the gorgeous format appearing both on HBO Max (for any supported devices) and on an upcoming home media release through Warner Bros. "The Blu-ray, I think, was okay. The director added that the new release is expected to replace the original Batman v Superman and update the film's 4K visuals. However, Snyder revealed in 2020 that he has been working on a remastered version of the film that restores its IMAX aspect ratio. Batman v Superman released on Blu-ray in 2016.
